Lúthien Tinúviel, the fairest of the Children of Ilúvatar. Daughter of Elu Thingol (an Elf) and Melian (a Maia) it is said that when she was born "...the white flowers of niphredil came forth to greet her as stars from the earth." (The Silmarillion, J.R.R. Tolkien).
I think Tolkien can best describe her... "Blue was her raiment as the unclouded heaven, but her eyes were grey as the starlit evening; her mantle was sewn with golden flowers, but her hair was dark as the shadows of twilight. As the light upon the leaves of trees, as the voice of clear waters, as the stars above the mists of the world, such was her glory and her loveliness; and in her face was a shining light." (The Silmarillion, Chapter XIX - Of Beren and Lúthien)
So here is my humble tribute to Lúthien's beauty and Tolkien's great work. I wanted to portray her exactly as Tolkien describes her in that passage (blue raiment, grey eyes, dark hair, general loveliness ) being happy -before her doom- under the trees of Neldoreth.
I used a stock photo from `lockstock ([link]) as reference for the pose and lots of custom brushes.
This is a project that I started years ago and just now I go the guts to finish it XD. It was a lot of fun
Very beautiful painting of her - it actually looks pretty, but not depressing, like a lot of pictures of Luthien are. I love the colors you used, especially that gorgeous blue on her dress.
again, this is so wonderful!! your work is fantastic and I've always been wondering about some good artwork for J.R.R Tolkien's world! keep up the good talent!
